The Equinox: Embracing the Season of Change

The Equinox: Embracing the Season of Change
The air is turning crisp. The golden hour feels more profound. There's a subtle but undeniable shift in the rhythm of the world around us. We’ve just passed through the season of the spiritual spring clean, but a new, powerful energy is on the horizon: the autumnal equinox.

The equinox is more than just a date on the calendar. It’s a moment of perfect balance, where day and night stand in equal measure before the scales tip towards the longer nights of autumn. It's a powerful and poetic reminder that life, much like the seasons, is a continuous cycle of change. Just as the trees release their leaves to prepare for winter, the equinox invites us to reflect, let go, and adapt to the new season of our own lives.

If our spiritual spring clean was about decluttering our inner world, the equinox is about preparing for the next chapter. It's a cue from the universe that change isn't something to be resisted, but a natural and necessary part of growth.

Why the Equinox is a Reminder of Change

In a world that often feels chaotic, the equinox offers a moment of profound cosmic order. The sun’s position, moving from the northern to the southern hemisphere, is a reliable sign of transition. This natural cycle serves as a comforting truth: things always change. Summer’s vibrant energy gives way to autumn’s reflective calm. The bursting forth of spring is followed by the shedding of winter.

This predictable pattern can be a source of great comfort. It reminds us that:

  • Change is a natural law: We are not meant to stay the same forever. Growth, evolution, and transformation are built into the very fabric of existence.

  • Balance is fleeting but essential: The equinox’s moment of perfect balance highlights that while equilibrium is a beautiful state, it is often a transition point, not a permanent destination. Life is a dance between light and dark, action and rest.

  • Letting go is a powerful act: The falling leaves don't fight their fate. They embrace it, knowing that by letting go, they prepare the way for new life to emerge in the spring. This is a powerful metaphor for our own lives. What do we need to release to make way for new growth?

Three Tips for Navigating and Embracing Change

Navigating change, whether it's a new job, a shift in a relationship, or a personal transformation, can be daunting. But by using the lessons of the equinox, we can approach it with more grace and resilience. Here are three tips to help you effectively create and cope with change.

1. Practice Conscious Reflection and Release

The equinox, especially with the eclipses we just experienced, is a perfect time for reflection. The longer nights of autumn invite us to turn inward and consider what has transpired.

How to put it into practice:

  • Journal Your Year: Take some time to sit and reflect on the past six or nine months. A great way to do this is to look through the photos on your phone the  images can trigger memories and emotions.  With this you can look at the following - even write it down.

    • What have I accomplished?

    • What challenges have I overcome?

    • What beliefs or habits no longer serve me?

    • What am I ready to release?

  • Create a Release Ritual: Just as we used a tea ceremony to release during the Full Moon, you can create a simple ritual to honor the equinox. Write down the things you are ready to let go of on a piece of paper—old grudges, limiting beliefs, or a sense of failure. Then, safely burn or bury the paper. This physical act can create a powerful emotional and energetic shift, signaling to yourself that you are ready to move on.

By consciously reflecting and releasing, you are not simply reacting to change; you are actively participating in it, clearing the path for your next steps.

2. Realign Your Habits with the New Season

Change often feels overwhelming because it can disrupt our routines. But the most effective way to cope with change is to create new, supportive routines. The Virgo New Moon was a perfect moment to set these intentions, and the equinox is the time to cement them.

How to put it into practice:

  • Adjust Your Schedule: As the days get shorter, your body’s circadian rhythm may shift. Instead of fighting it, work with it. Do you have to be up before th sun?  Wake up to enjoy the sunrise, or start a new evening ritual that helps you wind down.

  • Focus on Foundational Habits: When everything feels uncertain, focus on the small, consistent habits that anchor you.

    • Mindful Movement: Instead of a high-intensity workout, try gentle yoga, a walk in the crisp air, or stretching. This helps you stay grounded and connected to your body.  I have started doing more breath work and kundalini style lymph drainage movement.  Ask me if you want to know more…

    • Nutritional Support: The seasons are changing, and so should your diet. Embrace warming foods like root vegetables, soups, and teas that nourish your body from the inside out.

    • Digital Detox: As we spend more time indoors, it’s easy to fall into excessive screen time. Schedule intentional breaks from your phone and social media to allow your mind to be still.

These small, intentional changes can create a sense of stability when larger changes are at play. They remind you that you are in control of your own well-being, even when the world around you is in flux.

3. Cultivate an “Explorer” Mindset

When faced with change, our natural instinct is often to retreat to what is familiar. While comfort is important, a mindset of curiosity and exploration can turn fear into excitement.

How to put it into practice:

  • Ask “What If?” Positively: Instead of asking "What if this goes wrong?", reframe the question. "What if this new situation leads to an amazing opportunity I never expected?" "What if this change is exactly what I needed to grow?"

  • Step Outside Your Comfort Zone: Challenge yourself to try something new, even if it's small. It could be a new class, a new route for your daily walk, or a new recipe. Each new experience builds your confidence in your ability to adapt and thrive.

  • Find Your "Tribe": Connect with others who are also navigating change or who can offer support. Share your feelings and challenges. You'll find that you are not alone in your journey, and that shared experiences can be a powerful source of resilience.

Embracing change like an explorer turns it from a threat into an adventure. You’re not just surviving; you’re actively seeking out the lessons and opportunities it brings.

The equinox reminds us that change is constant. It is both a beginning and an end, a moment of letting go and a moment of powerful new potential. Just like the seasons, we are designed to shift, adapt, and transform. By using this powerful time to reflect, release, and embrace an explorer's mindset, you can navigate your own changes with grace, resilience, and a deep sense of peace.

What changes are you feeling called to embrace as we move into the next season?
